Congratulations Honorees of the 2007 Heatly Alumni EventOver 400 Alumni and Friends came home to Heatly to celebrate 70 years of Heatly graduates, and honor fellow Alumni. Attendees were brought on tours of the school by current High School students. On Friday evening, October 12, two awards were presented – Jack McKinney was honored by the GIUFSD School Board and Alumni Association for his years of dedication to the district and Henrietta Mullen Messier, Class of 1942 was honored as the Distinguished Alumni Awardee. This new award was created to recognize Heatly High School graduates who have distinguished themselves in their profession or by their contributions to Heatly and/or their community. In addition to the plaque and recognition from the Alumni Association given by both her daughter, Lori and fellow classmate, Michael Cocca, she was also honored with proclamations and honors from Assemblyman Ron Canestrari (presented by Maggie Alix), Albany County Executive Michael Breslin, Congressman Michael McNulty, and a proclamation from Governor Elliot Spitzer (presented by Tony Giordina).
On Saturday, October 13, Alumni and friends gathered for tours, the Alumni Basketball Games and honoring Inductees into the Heatly Hall of Fame. There were 35 alumni basketball players playing a round-robin tournament. The winning team of the tournament was: David Bosko, ’06; Jan Harris Stebbins, ’76; Abby Alix Maloney, ’97; Bill Heffern, ‘93; April Sawyer O’Connor, ’92. Welcomed into the Class of 2007 Hall of Fame was: Chip Valetta, ’38; Jim Germaine, ’55; Bill McGovern, ’61; Sean Ward, ’79; Janet Weisenforth, ’79; Peter Heffern, ’83; Michelle Heffern ’90 and Paul Getty, Coach/Athletic Director 1970 – 2003.
