Heatly Students Visit The Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts
On Thursday, April 10, forty-six Heatly students, from Art History, French, and Business classes journeyed to the Berkshires where they had the opportunity to view an excellent assortment of classic artwork. Students and teachers alike were impressed with beauty and variety of the artwork available for viewing. This fantastic educational opportunity allowed Mrs. Mazzeo’s art history students to view several works of impressionism, the movement they are currently studying in her art history course. Mrs. Tucci-Cornelius’ students were able to see first-hand the work of several influential French artists, while Mr. Zebrowski’s business classes examined the role of industry in classical artworks. Thank you to the Clark Institute for being so accommodating. We look forward to our next trip!
No Referral Event
On Wednesday, April 9, grades 7-12 had their second “No Referral” event of the school year. All students who received no discipline referrals during the second marking period were invited to attend. Ninety-six students gathered in the school cafeteria where they were treated to pizza, cake, and beverages. Over twenty prizes were awarded to students for their positive behavior. Teachers also attended and joined in the fun. In addition to prizes and food, students were further rewarded by being dismissed a period early. Thanks to all that made it such a special day, particularly the cafeteria and custodial staff. Also, thanks to Hannaford of Latham, for donating the cakes. The event was a great success, and we look forward to the two remaining “No Referral” events. To view photos from the No Referral Event, please visit our Snapfish Photo Gallery.
Seniors Debate the Pros and Cons on the Legalization of Marijunana
On Wednesday, April 9th, Mrs. Hoover’s English 12 class will be held a debate on the Pros and Cons on the Legalization of Marijuana. Students worked in teams to come up with their statements for the debate. Those arguing in favor of the Legalization of Marijuana spoke about the medicinal use of marijuana and the potential financial savings for governments for offenders who are in possession of marijuana, which could be used for other programs. Opponents to the Legalization of Marijuana countered with arguments of the physical and mental affects of the drug and how the drug has sometimes become a pathway for stronger drug usage. Students from study halls, administrators and faculty members attended and served as judges. Students were rated based on appearance, opening statements, arguments and rebuttals. The team arguing in favor of the Legalization of Marijuana received 1,161 votes; opposed to the Legalization, 1,083. For photos from the debate, please visit our SnapFish Photo Gallery.

Spanish students visit Egg
On Wednesday, November 28, 2007, several students from Senora Camacho's Spanish classes took a cultural journey, learning about the Spanish culture through music and dance.
The students marveled at Inca Vibrations, a three-man band specializing in preserving traditional music from the Andes of South America. Even Senora Camacho got into the spirit, taking the stage with other Capital Region Spanish teachers demonstrating their fancy-footwork.
Second on stage was Viva Flamenco, a dance troupe striving to teach students about the intensity of Flamenco dancing using footwork, palmas, guitar playing, singing and dancing.
These performances are a part of The Egg's Learning on Stage program, devoted to teach students about world cultures.
