Teigin LegaultHeatly freshman lands role in Capital Rep’s To Kill a Mockingbird

Heatly freshman, Teigin Legault, will be playing the role of “Scout” in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird at the Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany throughout the month of March.

Legault has participated in Capital Rep’s S.T.A.R. summer program, as well as Capital Area Productions where she had parts in musicals, such as Alice in Wonderland, Really Rosie, Annie Jr. and High School Musical II. She is excited to hone her acting skills in her first professional drama.

“When people go to musicals they don’t necessarily pay attention to what people are saying, they’re more interested in the music. In a drama they listen to what the characters have to say,” said Legault. “I put pressure on myself to do better in practice, especially since I have such a talented cast to learn from.”

Legault has been practicing for six hours a day, six days a week, all while attending school at Heatly. Now that the show is drawing closer, she will be doing all of her school work at home between rehearsals.

“Because Heatly is a small school, they’re giving me the opportunity to participate in this, which I really appreciate,” adds Legault.

Regarded as an American literary classic, To Kill a Mockingbird follows two parallel stories – the courageous act of Atticus Finch to defend a wrongly accused black man, and the loss of innocence of Scout, Jem and Dill as they begin to learn about racial injustice and social class distinctions within their own community. The story occurs in the deep South during the Great Depression, 30 years before the civil rights movement transformed attitudes towards racism in the United States.

Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill will direct the cast of 26 professional and non-professional actors. Preview performances begin on Friday, Feb. 26 and end on March 2, 2010. Opening night is Wednesday, March 3, and the production will run through March 28, 2010. Tuesday – Thursday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. During the final week of the run, March 22-28, public performances are only on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets range in price from $27-$44 and are available by calling the box office at 518-445-7469 or e-mailing boxoffice@capitalrep.org.
