High schoolers learn about teenage relationship abuse
On Oct. 19, eleventh-grade students in Mrs. Hoover’s English class learned about teenage relationship abuse from a former Heatly student who works at the Unity House in Troy, NY.
Andrea Ryan, Heatly graduate and graduation speaker for the Class of 2009, talked to students about the effects of relationship abuse among teens and gave good advice to those who might be dealing with the issue.
The
classes just finished reading “Past Forgiving,” by Gloria Miklowitz and
are starting the novel, “Breathing Underwater,” by Alex Flinn which
delves into common teenage issues, specifically relationship abuse.
The Unity House is a Rensselaer County-based
human service agency that provides a wide range of services to those who
are living in poverty, adults living with mental illness or HIV/AIDS,
victims of domestic violence, and children with developmental delays.
