Good news for Heatly: District receives positive report card from state

Today, the State Education Department released the 2008-09 School Report Cards for all schools and districts throughout New York. In the release, both Heatly School and the Green Island Union Free School District made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in all of the indicators, which include all state-mandated tests, Regents exams and graduation rate for grades K-12.

Last year, Green Island was designated as a School in Need of Improvement (SINI), along with 53 other districts in the state, because Heatly students did not meet state standards on the English and mathematics Regents exams in 2007 or 2008. It will take the district one more year of improved test scores to be removed from the list.

“I feel that all of the district staff has put a lot of effort into making this possible,” said Superintendent Jack McKinney. “We’re moving in the right direction because of their efforts.”
