Heatly students experience life in the 1800's through local museum program
Students
in Mrs. Fleck's and Mrs. Littlejohn's fifth-grade classes enjoyed
learning about life in the U. S. in the early 1800's and about the
Underground Railroad—and they never had to leave their classroom. The
program is part of the
Scotia-Glenville Children's Traveling Museum.
Students rotated around to different stations within the classroom to learn various aspects of travel that the freedom seekers encountered, explore different artifacts and dress in clothing worn during that particular time period.
Earlier this school year, students in Ms.
Crudo's class learned about measuring and electricity and magnets
through the same program. The activities were tied directly into the NYS
science exams. Likewise, sixth-grade students in Ms. Cioffi's and Ms.
Kirch's classes examined important characteristics of light, including
reflection and refraction through simple experiments.
