District elevated to "School in Good Standing" by State Education Department
Green Island Union Free School District is now
designated by the New York State Education Department as a “School in
Good Standing,” thanks to two consecutive years of making adequate
yearly progress on state exams. This means the district is no longer
classified as a “School in Need of Improvement” (i.e., a “SINI” school
district).
“This achievement is the result of a cooperative effort of all members
of our learning community,” said Green Island Superintendent Dr. Michael
Mugits. “Every person, regardless of his or her title, contributed in
some way to the overall performance of our students. A clean and safe
school environment promotes respect and pride. An effective food service
program, along with a successful health office, fulfills important
physical needs of children. An efficient team of secretaries supports
all members of the school community by helping to increase our
productivity. Heatly's dedicated teachers and teaching assistants take a
cohesive approach to stimulating the growth of our learners. Our school leaders and teachers are
using data to drive instruction and build student skills. In addition,
the financial support of our community and the leadership of the
officials they elect as representatives serve as a significant
investment in the learning process.”
Congratulations to the Green Island community for this achievement.
