Career Day offers students the opportunity to learn about different professions

Heatly students in grades 9-12 participated in Career Day on Dec. 9. Sixteen guests representing a variety of careers spent the morning interacting with students and answering questions about their profession. Students spoke informally to guests about the educational requirements, day-to-day responsibilities and pros/cons of a particular job and many came away with a better understanding of their own career goals.

"Career Day was an opportunity for students to speak with someone who knows firsthand what it is like to work every day in a particular field and who could advise them on the steps necessary to pursue a career in that field," said Marilyn Michaels, Heatly business teacher.

The feedback was positive from students, teachers and guests. Career exploration activities will continue throughout the year, culminating with juniors and seniors job shadowing in the spring.
