Heatly wins second place in "Chairs that Tell a Story" competition

University at Albany recently challenged area students to use their artistic talents to depict a favorite literary classic on one of the university's library oak chairs.

With the help of Art Teacher Mrs. Jakob, Mrs. Kirch's students of the Class of 2013 won second place for their depiction of "To Kill a Mockingbird." A special congratulations to Molly Rorick, Andrea Pitcher and Laura Strizzi, who were the main artists involved.

In addition, seniors Riannon Simpson, Alexi Anderson, Jessica White and Kandice Zakrzewski designed a chair from, "The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland," which also drew praise from the "Chairs that Tell a Story" contest judges.

Heatly was one of more than 25 area schools who participated in the contest.

All of the chairs will be showcased during Fallbany, the University’s Fall Festival/Homecoming Weekend. The public will have the opportunity to bid on and purchase the chairs on Oct. 12, 2012, with proceeds to benefit UAlbany Libraries programs and services.
