Time doesn't stop once the last day of school ends
The work calendar at Heatly continues after the whoops and hollers of learners celebrating the conclusion of the year have faded into memories.
It's time for the custodial crew to empty over thirty classrooms one by one to wash and wax floors, transfer the contents of rooms changed by different teacher assignments, and touch up the paint on hallways. The gym floor needs to be restored with a new finish. Minor renovations are in order to better use our limited space. The "to do" list grows each day.
Secretaries process a number of different reports; collecting, sorting, and producing information on everything from report card grades to daily attendance. They enroll children who move in to the school district over the summer, and organize and send out transcripts of any child who moves out of the school district. Supplies for the upcoming school year must be ordered and accounted for after proper purchase orders are completed. Phones still ring and people stop by with questions throughout the summer.
Administrators examine applications for vacant positions. The resignation of Jodie Lanchantin leaves us with an opening for a secondary level English position. There are 298 candidates as of today. Interviews must be set up for that role and those for K-12 Art and secondary level Science after a review of applicants. Schedules must be constructed and ready for distribution to learners in August.
Work continues "behind the scenes", even though the building is otherwise empty of children, so we can set the stage for the next school year in September.
