Hannaford Supermarkets Scores with Major League Donation for Community Gymnasium Renovation Project

Hannaford Supermarkets has donated $12,000 to the Green Island School District to be used toward the purchase of a new scoreboard for the Heatly School’s new gymnasium. The new gym – used by both students and local residents - is part of a more extensive building redesign project at the school. Expansion and renovation plans will be on display.

Hannaford Supermarkets has presented $12,000 to the Heatly School, the only school within the Green Island School District, for the purchase of a new scoreboard for the school’s renovated gymnasium.

Heatly School is a K-12 public school building currently undergoing an extensive remodeling and expansion which will include a new, modern gymnasium.

“Our gymnasium is used by our entire community and with Hannaford’s generous donation we will be able to put the finishing touches on our state-of-the-art facility,” said Erin Peteani, principal, grades 7-12, Heatly School. “We are also looking forward to having the fruits and vegetables, which are part of Hannaford's logo, displayed prominently on this scoreboard. Hannaford’s commitment to encouraging healthy choices and a balanced diet fits right in line with our school’s wellness policy.”

This donation comes just days before Hannaford will host a wellness fair on Tuesday, November 7 at the Polish Community Center in Albany from 2 – 6 p.m. The event is open to all members of the community, who can take advantage of a variety of free health diagnostic services and learn more about health-related issues.  Hannaford is also offering attendees the opportunity to get flu shots for $25 and pneumonia shots for $35. During the fair, people can receive a variety of free services including screenings for osteoporosis, blood pressure, body fat percent, total cholesterol and glucose. In addition, wellness professionals and diagnostic equipment vendors will be available to answer questions and offer product samples.
