Project Adventure Trip

The May 13th trip to The Adirondack Center in St. Johnsville was a huge success. Twenty eight students from Student Council and Junior High Club and the high school class officers challenged themselves on the high rope elements. After some team building activities such as the Mohawk Walk (a low rope element) participants were harnessed up for the high ropes. The Adirondack Center operates under the philosophy of "challenge by choice" - participants only engage in activities they feel comfortable doing. Students were able choose from any or all of the following elements - the Catwalk, Burma Bridge, Tension Traverse, or the Speed Climb. The students are hoping to return again in the fall to participate in more challenges. The students were accompanied by Mrs. Lawlor, Mr. Manning and Mrs. Desnoyers. Special thanks to Latham Farms Hannaford for providing water and snacks for the trip! To view photos, visit our SnapFish Photo Gallery.

HS Student Council Mentoring Program

Heatly’s Student Council members began discussing the increasing problems and issues of bullying during the school day. At their meeting, they came with the concerns of other students, and have come up with a plan to try to fix things. There are currently two students who are being trained by Mrs. Russom, our School Psychologist. To begin with, the students will focus on new and younger students (7th and 8th grade) through the end of this school year. Next year, the program will expand as they decide what they want the program to look like, who will be involved, and how they can help the students at Heatly. It will be run similar to a Big Brother/Big Sister Program, where upper classmen may take a younger student “under their wing” and help them. If you have questions regarding the program, please contact one of the Student Council Representatives.

Project Adventure

Members of the Student Council are very concerned over the behavior and attitudes of their schoolmates. They are working together with the Junior High Club on a Project Adventure Trip to be held during the month of May. Students attending would be Student Council members, Junior High Club members and Class Officers in good standing with their clubs/classes and with the school (academically and discipline wise). Their hope with this trip is to change the climate of the student body by first changing the attitudes of the current and potential leaders of the school. They want to make them feel more of a sense of school community, pride and respect for themselves and others. This is one of the first in a series of things Student Council would like to do to improve school climate.
