    Program Update: Oct. 17, 2022

    Dear Heatly Families,

We’re excited to announce that we have hired a program director and have a start date for our 21st Century/Heatly Rising After-School Program! The program will begin on Monday, Nov. 14 and is open to students in grades K-6. This program will run daily from 3-6 p.m. and consist of enriching activities for students after the school day has concluded. To date, 50 families have expressed interest in the program and confirmation letters will soon be sent home to verify their child’s enrollment.

Furthermore, students in grades 7-12 can participate in topic-based clubs that meet throughout the school year. Some suggestions for clubs include college prep, school newspaper, international service and drama. Students who are 16 and older have the option of participating in an internship program to become a Heatly Rising Group Leader. After students complete a successful 45-hour internship as a Group Leader, they will then be hired as a Heatly Rising After School Program employee and be paid $15/hr. Interested students should see Ms. Smigelski for details.

Below is the tentative schedule for the 21st Century/Heatly Rising After-School Program:

    • 2:55-3:10 = Check-in & snack
    • 3:15-4:15 = Themed Educational Enrichment provided by Activity Specialist (This hands-on activity will be provided by faculty. Each unit will be one week in length and support the academic and social goals of the grant.)
    • 4:20-4:50 = Structured play (This organized physical activity will allow students to be active and expend energy.)
    • 4:55-5:20 = Homework Support (Our student interns/employees will serve as mentors and support our learners with school work from a lesson earlier in the day.)
    • 5:25-5:40 = Healthy & Positive Habits (In a community circle supporting Social-Emotional Learning our learners will participate in discussions led by mentors.)
    • 5:45-6:00 = Dismissal

If you have any questions, please contact Bruce Potter at bpotter@greenisland.org. You can also learn more about the program here.

    Thank you,
