Introduction
The plan outlined here is for the reopening of schools in the Green Island Union Free School District for the 2020-21 school year.
Communication and Engagement
The district remains committed to communicating all elements of this reopening plan to students, parents, guardians, staff, visitors and the greater Green Island community.

Health & Safety
The health and safety of our students, staff and their families is our top priority. We want students and employees to feel comfortable and safe returning to school campuses.

Facilities
To prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection in the district, facilities operations will be geared toward meeting social distancing requirements and frequently cleaning common spaces.

Child Nutrition
School meals will continue to be available to all students, including those attending school in-person and those learning remotely.

Transportation
Green Island does not provide transportation for students. However, some of our students do receive transportation for off-site programs (i.e. BOCES). The District will work with the transportation departments of those entities to ensure that the health and safety of our students is not compromised.

Social Emotional Well-being
We recognize that the social emotional well-being of our students and staff during these challenging times is critically important.

School Schedules
Green Island UFSD will make every effort to maximize in-person instruction while decreasing density and congregation in school facilities and on school grounds.

School Activities
As interscholastic sports and extracurricular activities are an important aspect of student life and the school community, it is our priority to maintain as many offerings as we can.

Attendance and Chronic Absenteeism
The district will continuously monitor the progress of our students. Teachers will be required to keep daily attendance and engagement records for all students.
View the full Attendance and Chronic Absenteeism plan.
Technology and Connectivity
The district will provide multiple ways for students to participate in learning and demonstrate mastery of learning standards in remote or blended models.
View the full Technology and Connectivity plan.
Teaching & Learning
The district is planning for in-person learning at the K-6 level and a hybrid model that combines in-person instruction and remote learning at the 7-12 level. Parents will have the choice to remain in the remote learning model.

Special Education
As a district, we will prioritize the needs of our special education students when considering all instructional options.

Bilingual Education and World Languages
Green Island currently has no ELL students enrolled. In the event that an ELL student transfers to Green Island, the district will make the proper arrangements to ensure that they are receiving appropriate instruction.

Staff
All teachers and principals will continue to be evaluated pursuant to the district’s approved APPR plan.
