• Board of Education

    Board of Education meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the library (unless otherwise noted). All Board meetings are open to the public. 

    If you would like to submit any public comments, please fill out this Google form by 4 p.m. the day of the meeting. Andrea Ryan, Board President, will read all submitted comments during the meeting.

    If you are unavailable to view the meeting live, we will post video of the meeting on our YouTube channel.

    Attending School Board Meetings

    Community members are invited to attend Board of Education meetings to find out more about district programs and events. The meetings also offers a forum for discussion of district issues. Opportunities for public comment are scheduled at the beginning and end of each meeting.

    Board of Education Members

    The Green Island Union Free School District is governed by a five-member elected Board of Education. Each board member serves a three-year term.

    Andrea Ryan 

    Andrea Ryan is the Compliance Officer at Unity House of Troy where she has worked for nearly 15 years. She is serving her third term on the Board of Education.

    Andrea is a SUNY Albany alum where she studied English and Educational Studies as an undergrad and English and Literary Studies in graduate school.

    From 2003–2007, she worked at Heatly as a substitute teacher, teacher assistant and teacher. She also coached Green Island Girls CYO Basketball for five years. Andrea volunteers her time providing consultancy services to small, local non-profits.

    Andrea, and her husband Jason Roy, grew up together in Green Island and are both the second generations of their families to graduate from Heatly. Their daughter, Ella, is a current Heatly student.

    Nancy McNulty

    Nancy McNulty has been employed by the New York State Legislative Bill Drafting Commission for more than 20 years, holding the current position of Manager of the Memo Unit.

    She is a lifelong resident of Green Island having attended Heatly School and later graduating from Mildred Elley Business College with an Associates degree in Office Technology's.

    Nancy is serving her second term on the Board of Education and enjoys being a part of and watching her many nieces and nephews grow up and graduate from the district.

    Don McManus

    Don C. McManus received his B.S. and master's degrees from Albany State (University at Albany). He completed his student-teaching in the Schenectady City School District.

    He started his lifelong teaching career in the Green Island UFSD in 1969, retiring in 2002. During that time, he coached 72 sports seasons (many years coaching multiple seasons), advised classes and is most proud of the international and state winning Key Club. 

    Don has been part of the Green Island community for many years, taking up residency in 2002 after his retirement. He has spent many years officiating more than 100 seasons of various high school sports.

    His love of Heatly and his belief in Green Island drew him to being a Board member for years now.

    Kirsten Mason

    Kirsten Mason is a lifelong Green Island resident and a Heatly Alumni.

    Kirsten is a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College and University at Albany with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.

    She was employed as Green Island park staff for more than 10 years, a teaching assistant at Heatly for two years and volunteered as a CYO basketball coach for three years. She is is currently employed as a Child Protective Specialist 1 with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

    Her love for Green Island, Heatly, and her hope that the students of Heatly will receive the same experiences that she did, leading her to become a board member.
