Welcome Back Heatly families,

The start of school is fast approaching!  We are all very excited to start the new school year and would like to share with  you some important information regarding your child’s new school day.  

Starting Tuesday, September 7th, your child(ren) will be back to a regular schedule, reconnecting with friends, spending time in classes and getting to know their new teachers.  We look forward to welcoming our new families and we're very excited to see the familiar faces of all of our returning students and their families. 

The following information is the start and end times for all students.  It is extremely important that students are on time to school and are present everyday.  If your child is going to be absent for any reason, we ask that you contact the main office and follow up with an absence note upon their return to school.  

Grade  followed by optional breakfast service, start and dismissal times are as follows:

  • Prek & K, 7:30-7:55 a.m., 8:05 a.m. start time; 2:40 p.m dismissal 
  • Grades 1-2, 7:30-7:55 a.m., 8 a.m. start time; 2:45 p.m dismissal . 8 a.m.
  • Grades 3-6, 7:30-7:55 a.m., 8 a.m. start time; 2:50 p.m dismissal  
  • Grades 7-12, 7:15-7:45 a.m., 7:50 a.m. start time; 2:44 p.m dismissal  


Breakfast service 
- Free breakfast will be available for all students every day.   Breakfast will not be served during the school days as in years past.   Students will be required to stay in the assigned breakfast area for the entire duration of breakfast service.  Students do not need to attend right at the start of the breakfast service but they must report to class on time.  Breakfast service will stop immediately at the end of the service time and students will not be able to leave class to go get breakfast after their official start time.   

Start time - Students will be allowed to enter the school building 5 minutes prior to their start time.  Students and families are encouraged to not arrive at school prior to that 5 minutes unless the student(s) are attending breakfast.  Any student that enters the building after the stated time will be marked tardy for the day and must check in the main office upon arrival.  The District will be adhering to the current District Attendance Policy and encourage parents/guardians/students  to be familiar with this policy prior to the first day of school.  

Dismissal time - Grades Prek-3 will be dismissed in the same doors that they entered in the morning. Grades 4-6 will be dismissed from the main entrance door.  All students in grades Prek-3 must be picked up at dismissal by a parent, guardian or an adult on their “pick up” list. If a prek-3 student needs to be escorted home by a student, the main office or their classroom teacher must be notified prior to the first day of school.  Students will not be released to any adult that is not designated on their child's “pick up” list.  Please contact your students' classroom teacher if  you have any questions regarding these procedures.   

As many of you have witnessed in the past, we will have two crossing guards outside to assist with arrival and dismissal.  It is extremely important that students and families use the designated crosswalk and adhere to all traffic laws at all times.  Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance to us.  Please also note the signs located outside of the school building regarding parking during the arrival and dismissal times.  Your cooperation during these two times of days is much appreciated and this includes double parking while waiting for your child to be dismissed. 

We are looking forward to being able to continue to offer many wonderful programs again this year to our students and their families.  These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Free breakfast and lunch to all students
  • Free basic school supplies including a generic backpack for grades Prek-6 students.  Students will only need to provide a lunch box if needed.  Students in grades 7-12 will be given school supplies if needed and requested..  Please contact the main office to make these arrangements. 
  • Chromebooks for all students in grades k-12. Students will be receiving these devices on the first day of school. 
  • District printed calendar 
  • Backpack and Food Pantry Program- More information regarding these two programs can be found on the District website under the Food Service page. 

Looking ahead….Mark your calendars- we will be having a Prek and Kindergarten Meet and Greet on Thursday, September 2 at 2 p.m. for our incoming Pre k and Kindergarten students. Parents and guardians are invited to see the classroom on this day and can enter the building at the north entrance of the building at 2 p.m.  We are looking forward to holding our traditional in person Open House on September 23rd at 6 p.m.  We will be sending home more information regarding this night as it approaches. Please note that all adults and students must wear a mask while in the building regardless of vaccination status.     

Parent and family involvement is extremely important to our school and we are encouraging families in Grades Prek-6 to be part of our school community by being members of our Heatly Parent -Teacher Organization.  We will be holding our first meeting of the school year at 5 p.m. on September 2nd in our school cafeteria. PTO will be meeting once a month prior to the monthly Board of Education meeting on the first Thursday of each month.  We encourage parents and guardians to attend and be a part of this wonderful organization. 

Everyone here at the Heatly School is looking forward to welcoming all of our students back for in-person instruction in just a few short days. Our goal this year is to keep students in school for as many days as possible, while also maintaining a safe environment for both students and staff. To do this, as we have previously communicated, we will follow a layered mitigation protocol in an effort to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in our school buildings. Mask wearing is one of several mitigation protocols included in our plan for the year. This is in line with the announcement made this week by Governor Kathy Hochul, who has directed the New York State Department of Health to institute a statewide mask requirement for schools. It is our expectation that all students will wear a mask to school when we open in September. Any student who does not have a mask will be provided one by our school staff, which they will be expected to wear throughout the school day. Teachers and school staff will continue to offer periodic mask breaks.  If a student refuses to wear a mask, it will be considered insubordination and per our code of conduct will be subject to disciplinary action which could include being sent home for the remainder of the day. 

Superintendent Ross will be sending home information regarding our Reopening Plan in the next few days. Included in this information will be the updated COViD-19 procedures and protocols. This information and other important information can and will be located on this website and the district Facebook page. The district will also be sending home weekly emails with upcoming events and highlights of our classes.  

Lastly, the following chart includes the classroom teachers in grades Prek-6 including their email addresses.  Secondary students should start checking their School Tool accounts for their schedules.  Mrs. Zeppierri, our school counselor, will be finishing their schedules in the next few days.  If your child(ren) in grades 9-12 have not checked their emails recently and completed their course requests, please advise them to do that as soon as possible. If they do not make their choices, Mrs. Zeppierri will fill their schedules with the required graduation requirements,   Any questions regarding this can be emailed to Mrs. Zeppierri; she can also be reacghed at 518-273-1422 ext. 2015.
