Anonymous donors create a classroom library for second grade students
Dozens of new books will soon be in the hands of Green Island second grade students thanks to the generosity of strangers.
Through DonorsChoose.org funding, students in Elizabeth Grolley’s class are receiving a new library of classroom books to borrow and read.
“It’s so amazing. I cannot wait to show the second grade all these wonderful new books! They will love to explore and read them,” Grolley said.
Grolley turned earlier this year to the online teacher’s resource to fund the new library, saying, “we have old random books and not many choices in our classroom. Although students could read using online resources, it's so important at a young age to enjoy and experience holding real books to foster a love of reading long term.”
Ten people funded the project with approximately $700 which, Grolley in turn used to purchase dozens of books!
“They will have a brand new assortment of second grade level books of all sorts: graphic novels, picture books on social emotional learning, multiple series, non-fiction books and more!” Grolley said. “I'm so excited for them”
