Thank you for taking the time to respond to our survey to help better meet our students' needs during inclement weather. As you can imagine, it’s a difficult decision for the district to make when a winter storm approaches as there are many variables to consider when determining if GIUFSD should close, delay or go virtual. We consider the safety of our students and staff, especially when traveling to and from school. If outlining districts are closed or delayed due to regional inclement weather, we face a staff shortage which could impact student supervision and safety.
Some of the feedback we received was around the logistics and timing of assignments during the day especially with households that have siblings at different grade levels. Furthermore, clarity around when a virtual day should be used is important. These days would not replace a traditional snow day. Additionally, internet is offered to any families who are experiencing difficulties.
As future inclement weather is anticipated, your valuable feedback will allow us to better our decision making to ensure that direct instruction continues for all our learners. Full survey results can be viewed here.
