A Green Island teen is using Capital Region BOCES to build a knowledge of construction and all the careers the industry offer.
Isabella VanWormer is a junior in the Building Trades program on the Career & Technical Education Center – Albany Campus preparing for a career designing and building the future of the region and beyond.
“I either want to be a contractor or an architect and BOCES is allowing me to explore and decide what I want to do,” said VanWormer.
Students in the Building Trades program, which is based on the Albany campus, learn through standardized craft training programs developed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and gain valuable experience through on- and off-campus projects. They learn about safety, green construction, reading blueprints along with receiving extensive training in home energy efficiency. The program is being expanded to the Schoharie Campus for the 2023-24 school year.
VanWormer enjoys the freedom of learning skills and imagining projects that BOCES affords.
“Being able to build and design and imagine projects is pretty cool,” said VanWormer.
Recruiting is underway for the 2023-24 school year. To learn more about the Building Trades program or any of the 27 other programs, visit https://www.capitalregionboces.org/career-technical-education/courses-programs/.
