6.12.20 Ensuring a secure absentee ballot process

To ensure that the absentee ballot budget vote process is secure, the district has implemeted the following processes:

  • Hand delivered ballots dropped in the secure ballot box were date stamped at 5 p.m. on June 9
  • Ballots received via USPS after June 9 will be dated until 5 p.m. on June 16
  • At 5 p.m. on June 16, all ballots will be removed from the ballot box.
  • Each ballot mailing envelope will be opened to pull the enclosed official signed ballot envelope
  • The Board Clerk will cross reference each signature and/or address on the ballot vote to verify the ballot received is a qualified voter, as well as ensure they only vote once.
  • Once verified, the Board Clerk will remove each folded ballot from the signed envelope and discard the mailing and signature envelopes.
  • Each folded ballot will be placed into the ballot box as to not to reveal any identifying information on the ballot.
  • Once this process is completed, the Board Clerk and Board of Education approved Election Inspectors will remove the folded ballots from the ballot box and begin tallying the vote.
  • The Board Clerk and Election Inspectors will each take a stack of ballots and begin tallying them. When all ballots have been tallied, they will exchange ballots and count again to ensure no mistakes were made.
  • After verifying each other's counts, the Board Clerk will add the numbers together and report a final vote to the Board of Education.
