District to launch SchoolMessenger, new mass notification system for families
Sept. 29, 2020
Dear Heatly families,
We are excited to share that we are launching a new messaging system! Beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, the district is switching from SNN to SchoolMessenger. SchoolMessenger will allow the district to send emails, text messages and robo calls (when applicable) to our families.
How will Green Island use SchoolMessenger? The SchoolMessenger system is the primary way the Green Island Union Free School District will communicate with parents/guardians about everyday events and emergency situations. The type of communication will depend on the type of situation.
Email will be the primary form of communication through SchoolMessenger. Email will be used to communicate school-level and district-wide events that are non-emergency in nature. Emergency alerts will be sent via email in conjunction with other forms of communication.
Text messages will only be used in emergency situations or situations where schools are closed. Only parents who have opted in for text alerts will receive them.
Phone calls will only be used in emergency situations.
How will I receive the messages? If your email address and phone number is accurate in SchoolTool, you should automatically receive emails and robo calls. The primary and secondary contacts in SchoolTool will receive messages from the district.
To receive text messages, you must go through the opt-in process. On Monday, Oct. 5 at 9 a.m., parents/guardians will receive a text message invitation to receive SMS text messages from the district through the new SchoolMessenger system. This confirmation is required prior to families receiving text messages from our schools. The message will look like this:
Green Island Union Free School District messages. Reply Y to confirm, HELP 4 info. Msg&data rates may apply. Msg freq varies. schoolmessenger.com/tm
If you would like to receive text messages, please reply Y when you receive this message. You should receive a confirmation message that you successfully opted in.
Text messages from our schools will be sent from School Messenger’s “short code” of 67587.
