How Green Island will communicate about weather delays/closures

Dec. 15, 2020

The winter season is upon us! The Green Island Union Free School District wants students, staff and families to know how the district will handle weather-related closures and delays in the 2020-21 school year.

Weather-related closures

In a recent video update from Superintendent Ross, it was announced that the school would hold traditional snow days, similar to past years. In the event there is a snow day, there will be no classes for in-person or virtual students.

However, if there are more snow days used this winter than the academic calendar allows, it may become necessary to use these days for virtual instruction. If the district exceeds its allotted number of snow days, families would be notified in advance that subsequent snow days will include virtual instruction.

Weather-related delays

This year, in the event the district needs to implement a two-hour delay, it will turn into a remote learning day for all students (grades Pre-K-12). Students should login from home at 7:45 a.m. (grades K-2) or 8 a.m. (grades 3-12) and follow their daily schedule.

How we will communicate weather-related delays and closures

Cancellations, delays or early dismissals are posted on the school district’s website, right on the homepage at www.greenisland.org.
