Information about masks in schools from Superintendent Ross

June 5, 2021

Dear Heatly families,

Late yesterday afternoon, New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker issued a letter informing the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that the state would ease the mask requirements in schools as early as Monday, June 7 unless the CDC advises the state before Monday it should not take this action.

It is important to note that Commissioner Zucker’s letter to the CDC is not a formal guidance document from New York state. As of right now, public schools have not received any definitive guidance on this topic from the state. I will continue to monitor developments over the weekend.

I will update our families if we receive official guidance about wearing masks in school. If we do not hear further guidance before Monday, the current mask requirements will still be in effect when students come back to school on Monday morning.

I know situations like this can be confusing and frustrating. I cannot thank you enough for all you have done to partner with us this year. We are in the homestretch and want to have a great end to the school year.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Ross
Superintendent of Schools
