An important message from Superintendent Ross

Dear Heatly Families,

In August, Green Island UFSD was awarded the “Student Mental Health Support Grants to School Districts” from the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYSOMH). The $1.4 million grant, which will be distributed over the next five years, will facilitate student access to mental health resources. GIUFSD has recently begun to receive grant funds and is currently in the process of implementing its mental health support plan.

A fundamental part of the district’s plan is establishing the Consultation and Response Team (CART) led by a Director of Behavioral Health to oversee the grant and the incorporation of mental health resources for students and staff. The CART will comprise a team of mental health professionals including crisis coordinators, social workers and a full time Licensed Behavioral Health Professional (LBHP) provided by Northern Rivers. We would like to formally announce that Principal Jodi Mazzeo has accepted this position and will transition from Heatly school principal to Director of Behavioral Health. We would like to thank Mrs. Mazzeo for her incredible leadership and guidance, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has been an extraordinary leader and we appreciate Mrs. Mazzeo’s unwavering support for Green Island students, staff and community members.
