Green Island UFSD 2025-26 budget passes

On Tuesday, May 20, Green Island residents voted to approve a $8,642,483 proposed budget for the 2025-26 school year with 67 “yes” votes and 19 “no” votes, a 77.91% approval. The budget consists of a $53,571 spending decrease compared to the current year’s budget. The 1.91% tax levy increase will support the budget, which is below the legal tax cap and will only increase local share of approximately $29.80 per $100,000 home.

The approved budget will continue supporting curriculum resources to align with New York State standards, allow continued coaching and support for teachers to improve retention, support arts, music, and other electives to broaden the student’s education, enrich experiences for students beyond the classroom walls, tuition grades 9-12 to Watervliet CSD, and allow collaboration time for teachers to plan the best experiences for students.

Residents also voted to fill one Board of Education seat. Kirsten Mason was elected to the board, receiving 75 votes. Jackie Osgood was a write-in candidate, receiving 2 votes.

“Thank you for supporting the Green Island Union Free School District,” said Superintendent Dan Kalbfliesh, “We are stronger together. I look forward to the opportunities this upcoming school year will provide for our students and families.”
