Heatly Students take a stand against bullying with creative campaign

Fifth and sixth-grade students at Heatly School joined forces today to combat bullying, showcasing posters and explaining information as part of a proactive collaboration to prevent instances of bullying within the school community.

On Thursday, March 28, students hung their posters in the hallway for the school to see, including research, facts, and messages of solidarity that highlight the importance of standing against bullying.

Emerson and Naiji’s poster highlighted that over half (57%) of bullying incidents stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied, and that sixth-graders are the most affected by bullying nationwide.

A group’s poster stated “Be a Buddy, not a Bully,” and another abolished cyberbullying, reminding students not to “use technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person.”

“Bullying is not nice. If you see or hear someone bullying, tell a trusted adult,” read another poster.

This activity is part of discussions focusing on empathy, respect, and conflict resolution to promote a positive and inclusive school culture. These student’s research will be compiled into a class guidebook for anti-bullying, which will be utilized as a platform of support for incoming grade levels.
