Albany County has released an important update regarding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for November. Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, November SNAP benefits may be delayed or not issued unless additional federal funding becomes available.
“We have been notified by New York State OTDA that November SNAP benefits may be delayed or may not be issued for November unless the federal government shutdown ends or other federal funding is provided.
We know this is a difficult situation, and both the State and Albany County are working to ensure families have access to food during this time. Governor Hochul has released $30 million in emergency assistance, and the County is helping food pantries stock their shelves.
Albany County understands that SNAP is an important hunger prevention program that helps children, older adults, the disabled, and families — and we will continue to fight to get SNAP funded.”

Albany County is collecting donations to support families who may be affected by delays in November SNAP benefits. If you’re able, please consider donating to the Albany County Food Drive.
Items to Donate:
- Canned proteins, soups, and vegetables
- Dried beans, fruit, and herbs
- Ground coffee, peanut butter
- Diapers and infant formula
- Menstrual products, deodorant, and soap
- Shampoo, shaving cream, and toothpaste
- Aluminum foil and cleaning products
- Garbage bags, napkins, and paper towels
Where to Donate:
Collection bins are located in all Albany County buildings, including 112 State Street (County Office Building), the Albany County Department of Social Services, the Department of Health and Mental Health, the Department of Probation, Shaker Place Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Lawson Lake Visitor Center, and all Department of Public Works subdivision garages.
