On Tuesday, May 19, Green Island residents voted to approve a $9,012,604 proposed budget for the 2026-27 school year with 49 “yes” votes and 10 “no” votes, an 83% approval. The budget consists of a $370,121 spending increase compared to the current year’s budget. The 2.43% tax levy increase will support the budget, which is below the legal tax cap.

The approved budget will sustain our current educational programming and extracurricular activities. Resources are directed towards student-centered programs, while administrative costs have been reduced where possible.

Residents voted to fill two Board of Education seats. Nancy McNulty was elected to the board, receiving 55 votes, and Alisha Hope was elected to the board, receiving 48 votes. There were zero write-in candidates.

On the ballot this year were three propositions for creating new reserve accounts for specific purposes:

  • Capital Reserve for Technology in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000, with a probable term of ten (10) years.
  • Capital Reserve for Furniture in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000, with a probable term of ten (10) years.
  • Capital Reserve for Equipment in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000, with a probable term of ten (10) years.

These three reserves passed, allowing money to be set aside for future voters to decide their specific use. For more information on these propositions, visit the Budget and Finance webpage.

“Thank you for your support,” said Superintendent Dan Kalbfliesh. “This commitment to our students ensures we can continue financial planning that preserves our stability, so every student can reach their maximum potential.”
